Just the way we like it. The weather pattern remains fairly quiet this weekend. The old Bermuda High has locked in over the western Atlantic and will keep our weather “normal” into next week. What’s normal you ask? Highs this time of the year are in the low 90′s with overnight lows in the 70′s. Of course the humidity is there and we can’t rule out scattered late day storms. Some days have a better chance for rain than others, but typically 20-30% covers it.
The tropics remain eerily quiet as we wrap up July. Pretty safe to say that we are not going to have a named storm before August. While its not unheard of to have no named storms through the first 2 months of hurricane season, just gets everyone a little uneasy because you know its not going to last and wonder if Mother Nature is going to make up for lost time in the remaining months. We’ll enjoy the quiet tropics, but my gut tells me that its not going to stay this quiet much longer.
Alright, need to grab some grub and get back for the FOX news at 10 and the big 11 PM broadcast. Have a great Sunday everyone !!

With the summer weather here, we’ve been touring around the area enjoying some of our great attractions. This week I’ve had the opportunity to take a look at the new Mt. Pleasant Memorial Park, under the new bridge. What a great park and another super attraction for tourists and locals alike. I took our son and we headed out to the fishing pier for a walk. I don’t fish, which is probably a good thing for anyone around me, but watching the folks is exciting when they get a bite on the line. Charleston County Parks has once again shown itself as one of the best public park systems in the country with this gem.
Also headed out on the water a bit and it’s always wonderful to see folks on the rivers and in the harbor. Harve Jacobs and Chad Watson and their wives joined us for a little adventure up the Stono river. It was tough telling Chad that he couldn’t't jump in and swim with the dolphins, even though his wife might have thrown him overboard a few times!!
Charleston County also runs a fine marina up on the Cooper River near the old Navy Base. A great place to stop and refresh with ice and cool drinks.
The weather pattern is more like winter with upper level troughs and what we call long waves. This is keeping us with some on again, off again periods of clouds and showers. We’ll see a better chance of rain showers on Thursday and Friday, but nice for the upcoming weekend.
Well, it’s time to get ready for the broadcast and I hope you can join us for the evening shows and then back here at 11 for an update on the weather and fresh stories we’re working on before you go to bed.

Well, into late July and still no named storms (crossing fingers) for the tropics. Not much out there at the moment, but a few areas of interest continue to be monitored for possible development. One area in particular is approaching the Lesser Antilles. This is basically the eastern end of the Caribbean Sea. A tropical wave with some circulation continues to plague the islands and is forecast to move towards the Bahamas over the next few days. Shear continues to slow any kind of rapid development – but some forecast models expect the shear to diminish over the weekend which could allow for a little more development. Even if something doesn’t come out of this system, the Atlantic is primed for some tropical action over the next several weeks. Late August through early October is usually the peak of hurricane season, so of course we’ll keep an eye on the tropics and keep you updated.
Anyway, the weather here looks great for Sunday, so get out and enjoy the rest of the weekend !!

Looks like our weather continues to be typical of this time of the year. Very humid airmass with weak fronts or boundaries in the area acting as the focus of showers and thunderstorms. Look for the same deal into the mid week with highs in the upper 80′s on the beaches and near 90 inland.
Hope you all had a great weekend. We enjoyed our time at the Unity Day in downtown at Brittle Bank Park. That was a fantastic event with super people who donated some great food and drink. Always nice to see our friends from Z-93 JAMZ and Coke-A-Cola who provided plenty of cold drinks. Project Cool Breeze is again a success this year helping those people who are in need of a fan or air conditioner.
I had got out on the water a bit this weekend and noticed just how warm the water is! It’s around 85 degrees which is good and mild to jump in and enjoy. Be careful around the water and always use safety first.
Well, time for a Diet Pepsi and tonight’s broadcast which I hope you can join me for at 5,6,7 and 11.

Middle of July, usually sticky, heat index over 100 degrees, afternoon storms, etc… Not the case this weekend. The high today was “only” 85 degrees. Normal highs this time of the year is in the low 90′s. Also, the humidity was very low providing the Lowcountry with just a spectacular start tot he weekend. Not much change to the forecast on Sunday. We’ll stay rain free, but the humidity will creep up a little as highs reach into the low 90′s. The start of the work week looks unsettled with showers and storms expected by Monday afternoon.
Had a great time today at Unity Day at Brittlebank Park. Faithful LIVE 5 viewers stopped by our tent to say hi and cool off with a few sodas and water. Have a great Sunday everyone !!

What a day of wet weather we had on Wednesday. Take a look at the photo below that was sent in by Katherine DuPre, one of our producers from her home downtown:

We shattered the old rainfall record at the airport which was a little over 2″ with a total at the NWS office of 4.46″ !!! That’s more than double the old record. The rain led to massive amounts of flooding that closed hundreds of roads across the tri-county and rest of the region. Most of the downtown area was under 1-2 feet of water at the peak of the flooding. Numerous roads were closed int Dorchester and Berkeley Counties as well.
Don’t forget…if you have great weather photos please send them to us on “My5″ on our website at www.live5news.com. It’s easy and quick…and you may see your pics and video on TV!
Stay weather alert today and stay with Live 5 Weather!

Looks like a few more days of wet weather until late Friday when we’ll start to dry off. We’ve had a front sticking around with some upper support and lots of moisture in the atmosphere to bring the rain. We’ll see a warmer weather pattern into Saturday and Sunday with drier conditions.
I’ve been spending some time on the Isle of Palms with some family in from out of town and always stop to appreciate the beautiful place we all live. I’m not a big beach goer. More of a boater, but we did both by beaching the boat at Dewees Island a few times over the last week. Very nice folks and a fabulous beach to enjoy. Also spent some time on the IOP beach under an umbrella to keep the sun off. I get sunburned by the dome light in the car, never mind the hot sun over a beach!! It is though, a fine way to spend some time just hanging out.
I hope you have a great end of the week and can join us Saturday at Brittlebank Park for Unity Day as we bring the LIVE 5 STORM TRACKER out with plenty of Hurricane Survival Guides. We’ll also have some other goodies to give away!
I will be flying an Air Force training mission on Thursday, but back with you on Friday as we head into the weekend. Please join us for tonight’s evening broadcast and then back again before you go to bed for a fresh new update at 11.

While our weather the past few weeks has been anything but typical, the holiday weekend looks pretty normal for the first week of July. Average highs this time of the year, about 90 degrees and overnight lows near 70. Believe it or not, we could use some rainfall. There has been no measurable rain at the airport since last Monday and we may not see any until this Monday. While we have had our fair share of rain in June, the grass is getting a little crunchy again and a few downpours wouldn’t hurt. Anyway, just a short entry tonight, hope everyone is having a great 4th of July weekend. Stay safe and here’s the forecast…
After a fine 4th of July, looks like our weather will stay dry for at least one more day. High pressure located off the South Carolina coast will continue moving east into the Atlantic. This will allow for a frontal boundary to approach the area and spread showers and storms across the upstate on Sunday. We’ll see hazy sunshine here with just a slight chance for storms late in the day. Highs will once again be in the 90′s. Monday and Tuesday look unsettled with a good chance for showers and storms. Temperatures will be cooler for the start of the work week with highs in the mid to upper 80′s. Have a great Sunday !!
