Looks like we’ll stay mostly dry over the next few days. There is a slight chance of a shower into the weekend, but not a huge chance. Look for a 20% chance on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
If you like sunshine, May will start off that way! Can’t believe May is just about here, but it’s coming in warm and bright.
Don’t forget when storms do come up, try out our new “interactive” radar on LIVE5NEWS.COM
Just click on weather and interactive radar and you can zoom right down to your street level. That’s a great tool to see what’s close to you and what’s coming your way.
Hurricane season, hard to believe, is about a month away. We’ll be bringing you tips and forecasts as we get closer to June. The most active part of the season for us is August, September and October. Looks like a slightly above normal season with 12 named storms, 6 becoming hurricanes and of those, 2 above category 3.
Met some great folks in Goose Creek today at lunch who watch our broadcast and had some good questions about the upcoming season.
Well, time to get ready for tonight’s broadcast and I hope you can join us this evening at 5,6, 7 and back at 11 before you go to bed for a live update.
Have a great night…

Once again we’re looking at some mighty fine weather into this week. We’ve been warm and it’s going to stay that way as we head into May later in the week.
No real good chance of showers until perhaps later into the upcoming weekend when we get a better flow off the ocean and some more moisture to work with. The chance is around 20 to 30 percent by Sunday and Monday. That will be good news for the folks in Myrtle Beach who had the fires last week.
Hope you had a good weekend. The Blessing of the Fleet in Mt. Pleasant was once again a fantastic community event along with all the other things going on. We have some nice weather to enjoy during the after work and school hours as well.
I hope you can join us for tonight’s evening broadcasts at 5,6, and 7. Later tonight we’ll have a fresh update at 11 before you go to bed with all the latest news and weather. Wow, here comes summer. Heading into the last weekend of April, its going to feel more like the first weekend of July. Really, the first beach weekend of 2009. Light winds and surf temperatures in the upper 60′s will offer some relief if this heat is a little too early to take. At least the humidity will be relatively low, and it won’t be that sticky heat, yet. Anyway, enjoy the great weather. Here’s the forecast…
High pressure will remain in control of our weather through this weekend. This means more sunshine and temperatures well above normal. High temperatures on Sunday will once again be in the mid 80′s while overnight lows only fall to near 60. The only exception will be along the beaches where highs will be in the mid 70′s. It looks as though we’ll stay rain free into the new work week along with temperatures remaining above normal. Have a great weekend !!

Well, it looks like we’re in for a gorgeous week with lots of sunshine Tuesday through the end of the week and highs in the upper 70′s to lower 80′s by Saturday. Warmer than normal temps will be around for the weekend too.
Lots going on this week in the Lowcountry and the weather will cooperate. Had the chance to check out the new Charlestowne Landing and it’s really worth dropping over. The cost is low and the park is a fine place to enjoy on a nice afternoon with the animals and their new replica of the “Adventure.”
The Navy will also commission a new ship this weekend at the Weapons Station in Goose Creek. This is the first in a long, long time that a new ship is commissioned here in Charleston.
Ended up in North Charleston for lunch and ran into a bunch of great Channel 5 viewers. Thanks to all the folks we met today and I hope everyone enjoys the next few days of super spring weather.
I hope you can join us for this evenings broadcasts starting at 5, 6 and 7. Also, don’t forget you can catch up on the day’s news and weather before you go to bed at 11 tonight.

Gotta love this weather this time of the year. Sunshine, temps in the 70′s, and no humidity. We all know how hot and humid it will be in the coming months, that’s why we need to enjoy it now. Lots of activities this weekend as well. The Grits Festival in St. George, Family Circle Cup on Daniel Island, and of course the Verizon Heritage Golf Tournament at Harbour Town. Whatever your pleasure, enjoy the treat from Mother Nature. And so far, so good with severe weather this spring. We’ve had a few close calls, but no real widespread outbreak across the area. We may have to keep a close eye on the radar Monday, but at the moment, doesn’t look like a big event. Here’s the forecast…
High pressure will remain in control of our weather into our Sunday, keeping us dry and mild for the remainder of the weekend. Clouds will continue to be on the increase throughout the day tomorrow, but it will be mild with highs in the upper 70′s. Showers and thunderstorms return to the forecast Sunday night and Monday as a cold front approaches the area. The wet weather will be out of here by Tuesday and sunshine and temperatures in the 70′s will prevail for the rest of the work week. Have a great Sunday !!

Well, it looks like mother nature will work with us this weekend with some nice weather for all of the different activities going on.
High pressure will move east and we’ll see a nice Saturday with sunshine in the mid 70′s. Sunday will be partly cloudy as another weather system heads our way. Looks like the rain with this will stay away until later Sunday night and Monday; so the day looks good with highs in the mid to upper 70′s.
Busy week here at the storm center and we look forward to a couple of days off. I will be attending and working at our Air Force Reserve 315th Airlift Wing change of command on Sunday. We wish Col. Tim Wrighton all the best and our thoughts for an exciting future ahead.
We hope you can join us for tonight’s broadcast and that you have a great weekend!

Well, after flying thousands of miles, I am back from an Air Force misson to Baghdad, Iraq. We flew in the Secretary General of NATO and Supreme Allied Commander into the combat zone to meet the President last week.
Very cool mission with an amazing crew from the Air Force Reserve’s 317th airlift squadron and 437th crew chiefs. We also had flight attendants along from the 89th Airlift Wing at Andrew’s Air Force Base. These are the folks that take care of the President on Air Force One and other high level officials that we fly around.
I had the honor to reenlist a member of our Air Force base while on the ground in Baghdad. TSgt. Dave Warner asked me to swear him in while we were in the combat zone. It was amazing to do such a ceremony while on the ground in the blowing dust, helicopters taking off, armed guards all around and under a very hot sun. Congratulations to Dave.
It’s an amazing job being done every day by members of the Air Force and Air Force Reserve flying in and out of combat zones and making it look routine. There’s nothing routine about it and they train over and over for the job to keep safe in a not so safe area.
Baghdad is hot and dusty. Everything is tan and there is not much foliage except for some palm trees and brush. In fact, flying over Iraq looks much like the desert west in the US. Very dry, tan and dusty. Even the cities look colorless from the air. It’s a tough place to operate for our crews and even tougher to live for the people there.
I’m thankful every time I walk into a Publix or super market for the privilege of doing just that and living in such a great place. Many people around the world have never experienced what we consider a normal part of living.
The weather here is on and off wet. Need rain for the drought we’ve been experiencing over the last few years. Look for a better midweek.
I hope you can join us for tonight’s broadcast and I’ll try to get some pictures of the reenlistment in Baghdad for tomorrow’s evening show.

After a great Easter weekend, looks like some rain and storms are on the way for the start of the work week. High pressure that provided the area with sunshine for the past 2 days, will exit into the Atlantic overnight and tomorrow. A complex weather system will take its place and showers and possibly some strong thunderstorms, are possible over the next 24 hours or so. High temperatures will be in the 70′s both Monday and Tuesday with overnight lows near 60. Sunshine returns to the forecast on Wednesday with highs in the mid 70′s. We’ll continue to monitor the possibility for severe weather overnight Monday and Tuesday afternoon. Have a great Monday !!

Just in time for baseball season, Mother Nature throws a curve ball. Snow fell last night as far south as the mountains of northern Georgia and freezing temperatures are in our forecast for tonight. While its not unheard of for this time of the year, its just doesn’t seem right that we could be waking up on Wednesday to a frosty start. Good news is that by the end of the work week, we’ll forget all about this little Arctic intrusion.
The Masters begins on Thursday and as an avid golfer, its hands down my favorite tournament of the year. I’ve been lucky enough to get over there twice in the last 4 years and hope to go again in the future. If you have always wanted to go, and golf is your cup of tea, a trip down Magnolia Lane is a must. Those that have been to Augusta and I agree 100%, TV doesn’t do it justice. Believe it or not, its a very hilly golf course and of course the azaleas in bloom are awesome. Anyway, if you can’t get there this year, you can always catch it this weekend right here on Live 5 in high definition.
Here’s the forecast. A cold area of high pressure continues to settle into the southeast this evening. Skies will become clear overnight and winds will diminish to allow for good radiational cooling. Low temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20′s to low 30′s. Now that the growing season has begun, freeze warnings are in effect for all inland counties. Thankfully, the cold snap will be short lived with highs expected to be in the 60′s on Wednesday and into the 70′s by Thursday and overnight lows well above freezing. Our next chance of rain looks to be Friday night into Saturday. Have a great Wednesday !!

Great weather for the Cooper River Bridge Run! Look for lots of sunshine and temps in the lower 50′s with light winds. Saturday afternoon will warm to around 78. Sunday looks good, near 77 with a sunny start, then increasing clouds. Showers and thunderstorms possible late Sunday night and into Monday. High on Monday near 70.
Hope you have a great weekend. I will be traveling overseas for the Air Force all next week and will fill you in upon my return. Should be an interesting trip for sure.
We hope you can join us for our weekend broadcasts on LIVE 5 NEWS in HIGH DEFINITION.
