On & Off Showers This Week

Published by Bill under General Thoughts

Looks like some rain is on the way back for the middle and end of the week.  Wednesday through Friday will bring some scattered showers and thunderstorms with highs in the 70′s.  Saturday looks good with a fair amount of sunshine with highs near 73.  Some showers return later on Sunday.

I was out at Folly beach the other day and it was very windy!  Lots of folks came out though to enjoy some spring sunshine.  Folly is truly a local gem that brings you back to the days when the beach was the attraction and folks came from all over to enjoy it.  It’s always great to see locals and talk about this very cool place in our own backyard.

I also had the opportunity to spend Saturday with ABC WORLD NEWS anchor Charlie Gibson.  What a great guy.  We took him on a C-17 training mission where his nephew was the aircraft commander.  This was a great opportunity for Charlie to experience what Air Force Reserve aircrews do everyday around the world.  He was very impressed and had a very good experience.

As one of the “big three” network anchors whom millions watch each night, he could very easily have a large amount of people with him and be driven in some big Lincoln towncar by a guy in a dark suit!  Not Charlie.  He’s a regular guy who really enjoys his job and bringing people their national and world news each night from New York.

Busy week working on the weather for the Bridge Run!  Looks okay right now after some showers on Friday.  Stay tuned to LIVE 5 NEWS for BRIDGE RUN FORECASTS each day.

Well, it’s time to get ready for tonight’s broadcast and I hope you can join us for the evening shows and back here at 11 p.m. for a LIVE update before you go to bed tonight.

Severe Weather Takes A Swing And Misses

Thankfully, we dodged another round of severe weather that had its sights set on the Lowcountry.  Unfortunately, our neighbors to the north didn’t.  Several damaging tornadoes were confirmed across North Carolina over the last two days.  While some did see a few gusty storms across the region, we all received some beneficial rainfall, with most areas recording over an inch of rain.

High pressure will continue to build into the Lowcountry as we head into work week.  Clear skies tonight will allow temperatures to fall into the cool 40′s.  Sunshine returns for Monday, but not as windy.  Highs will be in the in the low 70′s.  Tuesday looks dry and mild, before showers return to the forecast on Wednesday.  Rain chances will remain with us for the second half of the week as a frontal boundary is expected to stall across the area.  Temperatures will stay on the mild side with highs in the 70′s and overnight lows in the 50′s.  Have a great Monday !!

Spring Temps and Pollen Continue!!

Published by Bill under General Thoughts

Well, the best thing about spring are the temperatures.  The worst is all the pollen in the air!  Everything seems to be green.  Looks like the mild temps are sticking around a while but some showers are back in the forecast on and off towards the middle and end of the week.

Typical spring weather rolls on and the pollen is part of it.  Nice to see things blooming, but it people with alergies are having a harder than normal time with so much of it around.  You can literally wash your car and by the time you’re done drying it, it’s sprinkled with the color of spring once again with the pollen in the air.  Oh well, that’s the change of season.

Hope you had a great weekend.  We enjoyed our live broadcast from the aquarium and thank Beth Nathan and everyone there for the invitation to be with the penguins.  Something you should try to see.  They’ll be here for a year.

Well, time to get ready for tonight’s broadcast which we hope you can join us for during the evening shows and then again back here at 11 for a live update before you go to bed.

Welcome Spring !!

Well, spring is here, but wait – Did he say frost?  Yea, just a little frost is possible well inland tonight as temperatures dip into the mid to upper 30′s.  Not enough however to prompt a Frost Advisory.  Hopefully, the last night of the season that we’ll need to run the heat.

Anyway, high pressure will continue to build into the area through the weekend.  After a chilly morning, expect plenty of sunshine for Sunday with high temperatures in the mid to upper 60′s.  Not much change as we head into the new work week.  Our weather will remain dry and mild with highs in the low 70′s and overnight lows near 50.  Clouds and a few showers are possible towards the end of the week.  Have a great Sunday !!

Rain on the way out!

Published by Bill under General Thoughts

After a cloudy and rainy start to the week, our next few days looks good.  Tuesday will have a few morning clouds, then we’ll clear and see some fine weather for the rest of the week with mild temperatures until Friday.  Friday a cold front will bring temps back into the 60′s for the weekend.

Hope you all had a good start to the work and school week.  On the road to Orangegrove Elementary School later this week along with some group visits to the station.  Don’t forget the St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 10:00 a.m. in downtown on this lucky Tuesday!  Later this week we’ll be live from the South Carolina Aquarium for some fun weather with the penguins!

Have a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day and we hope you can join us for the evening broadcasts and then again back here at 11 p.m. for an update before you go to bed.

Where’s The Rain?

Its a question that several folks have asked me today.  Not that anyone is complaining, but it was supposed to be raining by now.  The reason, well, a lot of dry air has been working down the east coast and on top of that, the weather system that was “supposed” to be here, has slowed to a snails pace.  The computer models are having a difficult time with this “wedge” set up.  Very dense, cool air continues to be trapped east of the mountains, while very moist, warm air is surging ahead of the system located to our west.  Mother Nature reminding us that weather is, and always will be, an inexact science.

Anyway, this very slow moving weather system will eventually spread rain into the area before the end of the weekend.  Lots of clouds and fog to start your Sunday, and rain chances will be on the increase, especially during the afternoon.  Temperatures will be a tad milder with highs in the mid 60′s.  It looks like once the rain arrives, it will be with us through most of the day on Monday as well.  Better weather is expected for St. Patrick’s Day.  We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the upper 60′s.  Have a great Sunday !!

A Cool Weekend!

Published by Bill under General Thoughts

Not much change with our weather this weekend.  Plenty of clouds and we’ll see some on and off showers.  Looks like an inside weekend with maybe a movie or inside activity.  We’ll all be at the BLACK EXPO this weekend which is a great time for families.  Stop by our booth and say hello to our LIVE 5 family.

We might see some warming into Sunday with some 70′s if our luck is good.  Let’s hope so.  The models are not handling this weekends forecast very well because of the shallow cold air.

Had lunch with some of our radio partners and enjoyed talking about covering all types of severe weather.  Hurricane season is not far away and we’ll be starting to talk about it as we move into April and May.  It starts on June 1st and we’ll have some great ways to keep you posted all season long including our new TWITTER and FACEBOOK updates.

Well, it’s time to get ready for tonight’s broadcast and we hope you can join us for the evening shows and then back here at 11 before you go to bed.

Colder End Of The Week!

Published by Bill under General Thoughts

Great weather in the 80′s continues…but look for a big change by late Thursday and into Friday, Saturday and Sunday!  Cooler air is on the way for Thursday and colder for Friday and the weekend!

We’ll see some end of the week showers as well which may help with the pollen that’s been making everyone sneeze!

Lots of people out and about doing yard work over the last few days.  Now things are going to start to bloom and it’s planting season for sure.

We’ll be checking the weather for you tonight on the evening broadcasts and hope you can join us then and for the late show at 11 p.m. before you go to bed.
